The Prevention & Recovery Centre at Warrnambool combines residential accommodation with recovery focused health support to help people experiencing significant mental health issues to transition out of hospital or to avoid admission.

Nicholson Construction was engaged to construct the entire project which consisted of 13 individual bedrooms, each with a private en-suite that provided an architecturally designed home-like environment. In addition, the building also included common area services such as a fully equipped central kitchen and dining area, multiple relaxation spaces, and a fully equipped laundry.

Other features include a dedicated secure mother and baby accommodation offices and staff accommodation, activity space, art room, sensory room, BBQ and large covered deck overlooking Brierley Reserve.

The facility is 100% compliant with DHHS anti-ligature guidelines. The construction involved significant earthworks and civil to remove large underground boulders.

The structure comprised of concrete raft slab, steel and timber frame construction with acoustic isolation of bedrooms and raked acoustic ceilings, mechanical system integrated into bedroom joinery and feature brickwork.
